The Department of Public Health, Faculty of Health at Aarhus University, Denmark invites applications for one or more positions as professor in the fields of General Practice, Biostatistics, Nursing, Public Health and Sport Biological Research.
Employment will be from January 1, 2020 or as soon as possible after this date. The position(s) are permanent and full-time, but part-time employment is negotiable.
The Department of Public Health
As professor at Department of Public Health, you will be part of an ambitious and internationally recognised department, where we work together to promote public health through research into areas that can prevent, treat and alleviate disease. We are involved in broad collaboration both internally and externally. We share our knowledge with citizens, decision-makers, business and industry, practitioners and other researchers – in municipalities, in the regions and both nationally and internationally.
The Department of Public Health contributes to or is responsible for teaching in medicine, public health science, sport science and nursing. At the department you will have approx. 200 colleagues, including 90 academic staff members and a corresponding number of PhD students. We are situated at two university campuses in Aarhus and at one campus in Emdrup, Copenhagen (only nursing). You can read more about the department here and about the faculty here.
Your job responsibilities
As professor at Department of Public Health you will have a joint responsibility for the development of the department’s research and teaching environment, and you will contribute to the implementation of the faculty’s overall research strategy. We expect you to contribute – both independently and in collaboration with others – to the development of the department by conducting research at high international level and by contributing to ensuring a high academic level and didactic standard in teaching. With your excellent interpersonal skills and broad academic network, you contribute to the academic development at Aarhus University and to the university’s profile both nationally and internationally.
Your main tasks will include:

- Research of high international quality, including publication in top international journals and communication of your research in national and international academic networks.
- Teaching and supervision of Bachelor’s and Master’s degree students and contribution to the development of new teaching activities.
- Fund raising for your own research group.
- Supervision of PhD students and contribution to the development of the faculty’s PhD courses.
- Assessment and committee work at Aarhus University.
- Research-based collaboration with private and public stakeholders as well as research-based consultancy.
- Dissemination of your research to the public and stakeholders outside the university.
You will refer to the Head of the Department of Public Health.
Your competences
You have an excellent record of accomplishment in research within General Practice/Family Medicine, Biostatistics, Nursing, Public Health or Sport Biological Research, and you have an established position as a prominent researcher.
You have extensive experiences in teaching, examinations and development of courses/programmes in subjects relevant for the teaching at the department. You have broad international cooperative partnerships and considerable experience in research partnerships with private and/or public stakeholders. You have a documented ability to attract significant competitive research funding from national and international sources and institutions.
As a colleague, you are a helpful, committed and motivating leader that inspires others and builds trusting relationships with students, colleagues and partners. As a lecturer, you communicate new and relevant knowledge in a committed, clear and understandable way. As a supervisor, you are competent, inspiring, supportive and responsible.
You are ready to take a joint responsibility for the development of the department’s research and education at the highest international level and for ensuring that we maintain a good work environment. You naturally involve yourself in interdisciplinary collaboration at departmental, faculty and university level as well as nationally and internationally.
We expect you to be fluent in oral and written English. International applicants are expected to learn Danish. Aarhus University arranges courses in Danish.
