Instituttets forskningsportefølje omfatter læring og erfaringsdannelse hos ulike grupper, på ulike arenaer og i ulike bevegelser og aktiviteter. Instituttet tilbyr femårig lærerutdanning i kroppsøving og idrettsfag (LKI), bachelorutdanning i friluftslivsfag (FLL), praktisk pedagogisk utdanning (PPU), og påbygningsstudiet fysisk aktivitet og funksjonshemming (FAF).
