The aim of the thesis is to improve the understanding of physical game demands, fatigue profiles in male elite football players with an emphasis on individual differences and implications for fitness training strategies. Running distance and in-game fatigue profiles were investigated through an analysis of game activity data from top-class football players. Post-game fatigue and recovery profiles were alsoexamined.

The main purpose of Elin Arvidson’s thesis was to explore the possible effects of exercise training on acute physiological stress reactions, and to study relationships between the physiological responses to acute physical and psychosocial stress. All included participants performed a physical and a psychosocial stress test before randomization to either a control- or an intervention group.

Andreas Fröberg has a Ph.D. in sport science, and is also a fully qualified PE teacher. He holds a Senior Lecturer position at the Dept. of Food and Nutrition, and Sport Science at the University of Gothenburg. His main research interests lie within the area of sedentary behavior and physical activity, and health promotion interventions among children and youth.

The overarching aim of the present thesis was two-fold. The first aim was to describe and critically reflect upon the experiences of developing and implementing an empowerment-based school intervention. The second aim was to investigate accelerometer-measured sedentary time and physical activity among the adolescents and to evaluate the effects of the intervention on these variables.

Det aktuella doktorandprojektet ingår som en del av Simlyftet i Göteborg. Satsningens syfte är att öka jämlikheten i simkunnighet, bland annat genom att ge fri simundervisning till skolelever i olika årskurser (ca 15 000 barn årligen). Simlyftet kommer att starta hösten 2017 och genomföras som ett samarbete mellan skola och idrotts- och föreningsförvaltningen.
