Olympika: The International Journal of Olympic Studies invites graduate students to write a journal article review for its next volume (Vol. 29, 2020). Interested reviewers are encouraged to consult with the Journal Article Review Editor before writing an article review. A list of pre-approved articles will be provided to consult upon request. Olympika is particularly interested in reviews of articles that consider the socio-cultural study of doping and the Olympic Games

The Journal of Sport for Development (JSFD) is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal. JSFD’s mission is to advance, examine, and disseminate evidence and best practices for programs and interventions that use sport to promote development, health, and/or peace. JSFD is currently seeking submissions for Volume 9, publishing in 2021. Manuscript submission is a rolling process.

Although it never went away, racial inequality is back in the global headlines. The raised profile of the ‘Black Lives Matter’ (BLM) anti-racism movement has polarized opinions in many quarters. Sociologists of sport have an important part to play in making sense of these global trends, controversies and particularities, not least by studying political movements and counter-movements, as well as media portrayals or racialized groups, and their everyday experiences of ethnification and racialization.

This special issue of the World Leisure Journal will address leisure and aging internationally. While free time itself may have changed with the devastating effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, leisure behaviors and patterns have also shifted dramatically. We have seen a drastic reduction to leisure, with the pandemic affecting everything from international travel to opportunities for connection that typically occur in social leisure spaces.

This special issue aims to provide new knowledge and insights into refugees’ lived experiences and journeys across all levels of sport – from grassroots to elite, and will also provide a platform to better understand and showcase the contributions by refugees to local and global sports cultures, and to highlight the relevance of sport as a lens through which it is possible to reveal, interrogate, and address practices, narratives, and policies regarding forced migration.

Friluftsliv er et betydelig samfunnsfenomen, i Norge og Norden, som vi finner igjen bl.a. i skoleverkets læringsplaner og i tilknytning til ulike dannelsesmål innenfor en lang rekke organisasjoner og offentlige virksomheter. I alle disse sammenhengene er det et stort behov for kunnskap og opplæring. Et formål med dette temanummeret er derfor å styrke friluftsliv som forskningsfelt, samt å kople friluftslivet enda sterkere til utdanningsfeltet.

This special issue will focus on issues related to IPEDs and polydrug use in sport, bodybuilding, fitness, or other populations. Polydrug use related to image and performance enhancing drugs (IPEDs) – using multiple IPEDs or IPEDs in combination with other substances – has been reported in both qualitative and quantitative research on IPED use. The year 2022 marks the 50th Anniversary of the first meeting of the North American Society for Sport History (NASSH) held in 1973 at The Ohio State University. A 50th anniversary issue of the Journal of Sport History will take stock of the field of sport history, highlighting the history of NASSH and proposed future directions of the organization and the field. We invite scholars of all career stages to submit paper proposals.

The main aim of this special issue is to bring scholars, researchers, educators, students, professionals and other groups interested in sports and physical activity to propose their works. The focus of this special issue lays in the new challenges that sociology of sports and physical activity have to face to understand these new complexscenarios, the main issues we had to face, the successes, the criticalities and the lessons learned.

This special issue will examine the history of sportswear and sports equipment as technology by focusing on the development and distribution of sporting goods, on processes of standardization, as well as their popularization. These lines of inquiry also open up questions about the materiality of the objects themselves: their function, the values attached to them, and their power to shape sport.
