South of England Sport and Leisure History Network
South East Branch: Autumn 2014 Workshop
Canterbury Christ Church University, Saturday 8th November 2014
Call for Papers
The British Society of Sports History’s South of England Sport and Leisure History Network (BSSH South) aims to bring together individuals in Greater London, the South East and the East of England who share an interest in the history of leisure in all of its forms (including sport, cinema-going, popular music, reading, tourism, shopping for pleasure, etc.). BSSH South will be holding a one-day workshop on Saturday, 8th November at Canterbury Christ Church University, in what is the second annual event hosted by the network’s South East Branch (comprising the counties of Surrey, Kent, and East and West Sussex).
The conference organisers are seeking papers for panels on the following three topics:
- Leisure Events
- Leisure and Health
- Youth Leisure
If you would be interested in giving a paper on one of these themes, please send an abstract (c. 200-300 words; please also identify which panel you would like to speak on) and a brief biography to the workshop organizers at firstname.lastname@example.org by Sunday, 28th September. Papers focusing on the South of England are particularly welcome, but we will consider all proposals, providing they meet one of the stated panel themes.
