This year marks the 40th year of the BSSH’s history and we are delighted to be teaming with the International Centre for Sports History and Culture (ICSHC) at De Montfort University (DMU), Leicester, for this year’s conference. This will be an open themed conference. Submissions based on original research are welcomed from UK and overseas scholars. Papers can relate to any aspect of sport, physical recreation, education and culture, as considered from an historical perspective.

The Sport and Leisure History Seminar is organised by the British Society of Sports History in association with the journal Sport in History. We have a varied programme of speakers from postgraduate researchers to leading specialists in the field of sport and leisure history from the UK and around the world. All welcome – these seminars are online via Zoom, and are free to attend, but advance registration is required.

BSSH and the local organizer as particularly keen this year to support Post-Graduate and Early-Career Researchers who are willing to present their research.
Call for Papers | The Scottish Summer | Wednesday, 7 June 2017, Royal Montrose Golf Club
This one-day conference will examine the history/histories of tourism and leisure during the summer months in Scotland. Abstracts should be no longer than 200 words, and must be submitted by Friday, 30 January 2017. A £15 fee will be charged by the conference organisers for attendance.
Call for Papers | British Society of Sports History Conference 2016 | Friday, 2 September and Saturday, 3 September 2016, University of Edinburgh, Moray House School of Education
This is an open call on any topic relating to the history of sport and related fields, with a broad geographic focus. Proposals for twenty-minute papers should be submitted by 15 May 2016. Proposals should be a maximum of 200 words long. Registration will be open 1 April. The draft conference programme will be announced by the end of May.
