Dear all,
idrottsforum.org has a great number of reviewers covering the wide and varied field of sport studies / sport sciences, as regular readers of our pages have noted. There are, however, shortage in specific areas, and today we are putting out a call for reviewers in the area of sport economics, sport business and sport marketing. Anyone competent in this area, which is growing in importance in sports as well as in sport studies, and interested in reading and reviewing books on these subjects, do not hesitate – get in touch with <kjell.eriksson@idrottsforum.org> and we will provide you with interesting books to review.
Last week the following items were published on idrottsforum.org (see below; language and publication dates, YYMMDD, in brackets). Click on the red headings to go to content. Utilize the Google Translate service to turn Scandinavian language pages into (some sort of) English.
Have a great week,

Book Reviews
Cricket and Contemporary Society in Britain: Crisis and Continuity by Russell Holden
Adopting a socio-political approach, Russell Holden’s Cricket and Contemporary Society in Britain: Crisis and Continuity (Routledge) investigates the declining status of cricket within contemporary British society after the high-water mark of England’s Ashes victory in 2005. We asked a keen observer of English cricket, journalist and broadcaster Daniel Norcross, for a review, and he lauds Holden’s wide ranging and detailed examination of why cricket in the UK has failed so many of its different social and ethnic communities. (Review in English published 221123.)
Kampen om idrættens kulturpolitik: Mere mening – mere skønhed [The battle for the cultural politics of sport: More meaning – more beauty] by Claus Bøje
In his latest book Kampen om idrættens kulturpolitik: Mere mening – mere skønhed (Forlaget Spring) Claus Bøje calls for a desire to formulate cultural political demands on the development of sports, in a collection of essays that also confront the lack of conversation about sports’ many qualities. Kalle Jonasson is our reviewer, and his reading of Bøje’s musings and positions is characterized by consensus, respect and understanding, but also by some critical distance. Bøje is an excellent stylist, says our reviewer – and that can be said of him as well. (Book in Danish, review in Swedish published 221124.)
Education in Sport and Physical Activity: Future Directions and Global Perspectives by Karen Petry & Johan de Jong (eds.)
Sport and physical activity are embedded in our education systems and in wider society. Education in Sport and Physical Activity: Future Directions and Global Perspectives, edited by Karen Petry & Johan de Jong (Routledge) takes the broadest possible look at this topic. In his clever review, Joacim Andersson finds that when scholars reach a point where their paths intersect, they sit down and listen to one another, and that stories that don’t really connect just need someone (or occasionally 47 scholars) to open a gallery for them. (Review in English published 221125.)

«Created by the Poor, Stolen by the Rich» by Mads Skauge
Football is important. Claiming otherwise is like saying that all the world’s religions are unimportant because you are not a believer. But you live in a world of believers. Many believe that the world’s most famous Norwegian is Roald Amundsen. But the two most famous are Ole Gunnar Solskjær and Erling Braut Haaland. In the eyes of the world, scoring the winning goal in the Champions League final is more important than planting a flag at the South Pole, as Jo Nesbø has formulated it. Football is first and foremost the world’s biggest cultural phenomenon, secondly a sport. No other cultural activity means as much to as many people in as many parts of the world as football.
