The POLIS Network aims at a closer cooperation of academics who work in the field of sport politics or who deal with political issues related to sport. After a 1st workshop in Cologne in 2017, followed by several meetings at EASS conferences, workshops in Papendal, Utrecht and Cologne, we want to pick up where we left off in 2020: Renew and deepen our discussions on polity, politics and policies in the field of sport. The workshop will offer the opportunity to present ongoing research, discuss new ideas about collaborative research and identify topics and agendas.

Call for Participation | “Sport and human rights”, Summer course | FIFPRO, Hoofddorp, The Netherlands, June 27–30, 2023

The programme brings together the latest in academic research with practical experiences from working in the field in an interactive package, fostering productive exchanges between the speakers and participants. Theoretical knowledge will be complemented by exposure to hands-on know-how and exercises. Participants will have the opportunity to learn from experts from the Asser Institute, the Centre for Sport and Human Rights, and FIFPRO, as well as high-profile external speakers from both academia and practice.

Review of the Economic and Legal Aspects of the Organisation of Football in Europe

In recent years, the European Sport Model has become a prominent theme in EU political, legal and policy discussions. As European football continues to be at the centre of these debates, this conference examined the organisation of football in Europe from legal and economic perspectives. The aim of this conference was to provide analysis and commentary to ongoing developments, including the European Super League case currently pending at the Court of Justice of the European Union.

Norsk idrett har i all hovedsak vært dominert, utviklet og ledet av menn fra og med Norges Idrettsforbund (NIF) ble stiftet i 1946. I den offentlige diskurs og i forskning om idrettsorganisasjonen beskrives norsk idrett ofte som en «mannsbastion», en organisasjon preget av en sementert mannskultur og manglende kjønnslikestilling. Formålet med Hanne Sogns prosjekt er å fremskaffe kunnskap om mulige årsaker til den vedvarende mannsdominans i toppledersjiktet i organisasjonen.

Call for Participants | Football presidents: towards a typology of political cultures | Webinar (Teams), September 15–16, 2022

Back in April, idrottsforum.org published a Call for Papers for this webinar which intended to have an international panorama on different political cultures and its leaderships. Bringing scholars from different contexts, it was expected to foster research on football club presidents and their “styles of management”, as well as developing a broader understanding of different empirical cases to build a typology of football political cultures. The Department of Sport and Social Sciences is advertising two four-year doctoral fellowships with 25% teaching responsibilities in the field of sport management. One position has a special focus in sport governance and the other position has a special focus in sport marketing. The Department consists of a broad academic environment that involves research, development, and teaching in several subjects: The Sociology of Sport, Sport Philosophy, History of Sport, Sport Psychology, Coaching, Sport Management and Sport for Development.
