Vacancies | PhD positions in sport managementat at the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences. Apply before March 15, 2022

The Department of Sport and Social Sciences is advertising two four-year doctoral fellowships with 25% teaching responsibilities in the field of sport management. One position has a special focus in sport governance and the other position has a special focus in sport marketing. The Department consists of a broad academic environment that involves research, development, and teaching in several subjects: The Sociology of Sport, Sport Philosophy, History of Sport, Sport Psychology, Coaching, Sport Management and Sport for Development.

We are expecting to receive proposals from different contexts to have an international panorama on different political cultures and its leaderships. Bringing scholars from different contexts, we hope to foster research on football club presidents and their “styles of management”. We also expect a broader understanding of different empirical cases to build a typology of football political cultures.

This Call for Abstracts is presented in English and in Swedish. The conference is organized by the Department of Sport Sciences at Malmö University together with the Center of Research on Welfare, Health and Sport, Halmstad University. As a step towards increased internationalization, all keynotes and one conference track will be in English during the two days. Additionally, representatives from the sports movement as well as physical education teachers will be invited to attend.

Slutkonferens | Sätt bollen i rullning – forskning för ett mer jämställt styrelsearbete inom idrotten | 2 februari 2022

Sätt bollen i rullning är ett RF-finansierat projekt för ett mer jämställt styrelsearbete inom idrotten. Projektet är en samverkan mellan Svenska Fotbollförbundet, Svenska Basketförbundet, Svenska Handbollförbundet samt forskare. Sätt bollen i rullning handlar om att skapa bättre möjligheter för kvinnor i ledande positioner att ges förutsättningar för att vara kvar och på så vis påverka så väl bollsporten som idrotten i stort. Projektledare är Annika Grälls, SvFF och Daniel Alsarve, docent i Idrottsvetenskap, Örebro universitet.

Our aim is to study the origins and evolution of professional football clubs from a management and organizational history approach. Studying the football industry from a business history perspective is not just relevant and important, but also allows participation in several of the debates open in business and economics fields, including the role played by consumers in the shaping and evolution of an industry; the evolution of an industry toward a structure with an ‘economics of superstars’ character and its consequences, and more.

Intercollegiate athletics is undergoing significant changes. The NCAA is convening a constitutional convention to review potential changes to governance and enforcement, including shifting more responsibilities to conferences and institutions. The special issue is looking for submissions in the following areas: College Athlete Experience; Alternative Governance Models; Name, Image and Likeness; Conference Realignment; Crisis/Pandemic Policy Management.

In recent years, global sport organisations have undergone various reforms in an attempt to tarnish the bad reputation of international sport politics. Amongst them, World Athletics, the governing body for track and field, has conducted a governance structure reform and dropped its former name, International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), in 2019. However, concerns about sport organisations’ dealing with their past remain and continue to influence current decision-making processes.

Stipendiatstillingen kan ses i relasjon til det pågående forskningsarbeidet ved forskningsgruppen. Søkere inviteres til å skrive prosjektskisser som tematiserer bærekraftig utvikling i organisert idrett eller idrettsorganisasjoners rolle i bærekraftig samfunnsutvikling.
