Introduction
The Policy in Sports & Physical Activity Research Group (KU Leuven) is looking for talented and enthusiastic applicants for a full-time PhD position. Candidates should have a particular interest in the field of sport management. The successful candidate will prepare a doctoral thesis within a timeframe of four years. He or she will assist in courses related to the KU Leuven Sport Policy & Sport Management Programme.

The Policy in Sports & Physical Activity Research Group is embedded within the Department of Movement Sciences. This department has systematically achieved high rankings for research and educational quality by independent accreditation committees. The department has an extensive international and national network in the academic world. The Policy in Sports & Physical Activity Research Group can build upon an extensive international network, connections with public authorities and non-profit organisations, as well as a supportive work environment.
Job description
The successful candidate is expected to perform academic research in order to prepare a doctoral thesis within the field of sport management, including the preparation of a study design, data collection, statistical analyses, presentation and publication of scientific papers, etc. He or she will give teaching assistance to courses and seminars, both at Bachelor level and Master level, that are mainly related to the KU Leuven Sport Policy & Sport Management Programme. He or she will provide administrative and technical support to projects and activities of the Research Group and Department.
Candidate’s profile
The candidate we are looking for holds a Master’s degree in at least one of the following disciplines: Business Management, Economics, Physical Education/Movement Sciences, Psychology, Social Sciences, or any other relevant discipline in the field of sport management. He or she should have a strong interest in academic research and education, in particular related to sport, physical activity and management. He or she should have achieved excellent academic results, and should master basic skills in statistical techniques and analyses. He or she has oral and written communication competences, both in Dutch and English. Experience in organisational and project management is an advantage. The candidate is also capable of taking initiative, working independently and respecting deadlines.
Offer
We offer a full-time employment in an intellectually challenging environment. The successful candidate will be employed initially for two years, with a possible two-year extension provided after a positive evaluation. The job position has a starting date of October 1, 2019. Successful completion of the PhD programme will result in a doctoral degree.
