Research Articles

På hemmaplan: En idealtyp för idrott i områden med lågt deltagande [A home ground for social entrepreneurship in sport]

It has become increasingly common for club sport to address various social problems such as segregation, integration, and inequality. This article by Tomas Peterson, Daniel Bjärsholm, Susanne Linnér and Katarina Schenker presents an analysis of what is required for sport to be used to constructively tackle societal challenges. The analysis is based on previous research on social entrepreneurship in sport and an ongoing study of Home Ground clubs, clubs that are developed within Swedish Basketball. (Published in Swedish 240304; English abstract available.

Almen Kropsforståelse: En kropsligheds- og bevægelsesorienteret tilgang til dannelse i gymnasiet [Basic Bodily Awareness: An embodied and movement-based approach to education in Upper Secondary School]

This article by Malene Hannibal Schubart, Camilla Ottsen and Charlotte Svendler Nielsen presents a study of what it can mean to young people when an embodied perspective on education in upper secondary school is strengthened, and how a space for this can be created within the subject area of Physical Education. During lessons focused on developing a holistic movement practice which we call Basic Bodily Awareness we studied students’ experiences of this teaching practice. Book Reviews

Fred og krig: Festskrift til Matti Goksøyr [Peace and War: Festschrift to Matti Goksøyr], by Gudmund Skjeldal & Allan Bennich Grønkjær (eds.)

Peace and war, or camaraderie and struggle, are keywords for a lot of sports – and for Matti Goksøyr’s long and impressive work as a researcher. He earned his doctorate at the NIH in 1991 and became professor of sports history eight years later. In December 2022 he turned 70, and how better to celebrate that than with a Festschrift. Christian Tolstrup Jensen enjoyed reading Fred og krig: Festskrift til Matti Goksøyr [Peace and war: Festschrift to Matti Goksøyr], edited by Gudmund Skjeldal & Allan Bennich Grønkjær. (Book in Norwegian, Danish, English and Swedish, review in English, published 240307.)

Meaningful Physical Education: An Approach for Teaching and Learning, by Tim Fletcher, Déirdre Ní Chróinín, Douglas Gleddie & Stephanie Beni (eds.)

In Meaningful Physical Education: An Approach for Teaching and Learning (Routledge) the authors outline an approach to teaching and learning in physical education that prioritizes meaningful experiences for pupils, using case studies to illustrate how practitioners have implemented this approach across international contexts. Peter Carlman is our reviewer, and he is sympathetic to the basic premises of meaningful PE; however, he feels that emphasis lies on methods of teaching at the expense of learning objectives. (Review in English, published 240308.)

Føre VAR på årsmøtet? Sluttord om teknologien som hjemsøker vår fotball [Lead VAR at the annual meeting? Final words about the technology that haunts our football], by Mads Skauge

(Photo: Nick Potts, EMPICS Sport.)

It may be in the longest and last stage, but it is still important and relevant, now that many are taking a position on VAR in connection with the annual meeting of Bodø/Glimt FC. Rosenborg, for example, has its annual meeting tonight, and the result in the VAR case will be symbolic for the rest of football Norway. Is Lerkendal falling? According to the VAR barometer, the most important football-cultural battle and fan issue of our lives has had a mediocre start, and quite a bit of mobilization is needed if we are to get VAR out of the way this time around. This text can be read as a temporary last attempt to turn the doubters and VAR positivists in time. (Published in Norwegian 240307.)
