Dear all,
idrottsforum.org has a publication policy that means that manuscripts will be published in order of submission – first come, first served – and there are but few exceptions to this rule. So, it is sheer coincident that we last Monday published Hans Bolling’s review (in Swedish) of a book (in Danish) by Christian Tolstrup Jensen, and then, two days later, a review (in English of a book in English) written by – Christian Tolstrup Jensen. And Christian is not the only reviewer with books of his own among the almost two thousand book reviews in our online review repository.
Have you written and recently published a book that you would like to see reviewed on idrottsforum.org? Let ut know the title and publisher and we will endeavor to have it reviewed. Or maybe you have read a recently published book that you would like to review for idrottsforum.org; in that case drop us a line to make sure that the book is not already with a reviewer.
Last week the following items were published on idrottsforum.org (see below; language and publication dates, YYMMDD, in brackets). Click on the red headings to go to content. Utilize the Google Translate service to turn Scandinavian language pages into (some sort of) English.
Have a great week,

Book Reviews
Sejren på Wembley [The win at Wembley], by Christian Tolstrup Jensen
Aarhus University Press had an idea: 100 books by 100 researchers of 100 pages over 100 months, each describing a year in Denmark’s history. 1983 was the year when Denmark’s national men’s team defeated England at Wembley 1–0. Christian Tolstrup Jensen writes about this in The win at Wembley, which we asked Hans Bolling to read and review. He can state that Jensen succeeded with the assignment, and one can no longer use lack of time as an excuse for not reading up on Danish football history. (Book in Danish, review in Swedish, published 230220.)
Mega-Events, City and Power, by Nelma Gusmão de Oliveira
Nelma Gusmão de Oliveira’s study Mega-Events, City and Power (Routledge) examines the power relations that emerge from the convergence of the universe in which the sporting spectacle is produced and the universe in which a city is produced. According to Christian Tolstrup Jensen, de Oliveira makes a convincing case that sport events impact urban development – and vice-versa. A rewarding read, concludes our reviewer. (Review in English, published 230222.)
Idrottsvetenskaplig forskning och utbildning vid Göteborgs universitet: Personliga betraktelser [Sports science research and education at the University of Gothenburg: Personal reflections], by Claes Annerstedt & Göran Patriksson
Two veterans, both giants in Swedish sports research as well as professors emeriti, Claes Annerstedt and Göran Patriksson, have recorded their memories from decades of activity at Gothenburg University’s department of sports research, now called the Department of Nutrition and Sports Science. It developed into a book, Sports science research and education at the University of Gothenburg: Personal reflections (Multicare), which is meritoriously reviewed here by Joakim Åkesson, who has done a considerable amount of research on this subject in a national perspective. (Book in Swedish, review in Swedish, published 230224.)

Age is just a number indeed, by Erkki Vettenniemi
Anyone remember a reigning cross-country world champion by name? Category doesn’t matter now, anything goes – senior women, junior women, senior men, junior men? I thought so. Yet the most recent edition of the championships was held this month, under Australian sun. Is it because the winners tend to be Africans that they so often escape one’s memory? Maybe, maybe not. At least the junior champions deserve to be forgotten as they rarely, if ever, are bona fide juniors. Masters running, by contrast, is something entirely else. Take Wami Biratu, for example.
