I undersøkinga si har Irina Burchard Erdvik spurt om lag 3.000 unge i ungdoms- og vidaregåande skule om sjølvkjensla deira, om idrettsdeltaking på fritida, om korleis dei opplever kroppsøvinga og om kjensla av sjølvbestemming, meistring og tilhøyring i faget.
Ho har mellom anna funne at kroppsøvings-timane oftast er lagt opp med mykje idrett, etter ein «idrettslogikk» som mest gagnar dei idrettsaktive. Opplæringslova seier ikkje noko om at idrett er viktig.
