Regardless of some naรฏve appeals for excluding sport from political conflicts, it remains an inherently political phenomenon. In recent years various aspects of sport politics and policies have been discussed in vivid public debates and approached by researchers from all around the globe. The conference will provide a forum for wide-ranging and interdisciplinary debate concerning all issues referring to the topic of sport politics and policies from a variety of academic fields, including: sociology, political science, social policy, criminology, history, law, geography, and sport studies. We understand sport broadly, including: elite/high performance sport, competitive and recreational sports, disability sport and lifestyle sports.

All theoretical frameworks and methodologies are welcomed. We kindly invite contributions applying all kinds of high quality, empirical, in-depth analysis of the sportโ€™s politics and policies approaching the broad variety of aspects including (but not limited to):

  • Sport regulating bodies on an national and international level
  • Sporting events and identity building
  • Health promotion and sport
  • Political contexts of sport mega events
  • Professional and recreational sport as a tool of social inclusion
  • Sport for development and peace
  • Political engagement of sport fandom
  • Sport stars as politicians and policy-makers
  • Sport as a topic in electoral campaigns
  • Sport organizing bodies and democracy
  • Progressive agenda and sport: counteracting sexism and homophobia
  • Human rights and contemporary sport
  • Economic and political contexts of sport
  • Sport as a tool for international diplomacy
  • Recreational sport and health policy
  • Open papers

We invite abstracts inย English or Polish!ย For every paper we will allocate discussant who will provide a commentary about the paper.
