The Sport&EU 19th annual conference will be organised by the University of Naples Federico II in Naples, Italy, on 30th June and 1st July 2025. The organizing committee is now open to receiving proposals for individual papers. As each year, the Sport&EU conference strives to have a distinctly multi-disciplinary character. Following our traditional policies of equality and diversity, Sport&EU encourages PhD students and young career academics to submit their proposals for this conference. Equally, we specially encourage female and non-binary academics to submit their proposals.

The Sport&EU 18th annual conference will take place at ESSCA School of Management in Angers, France, on 25 and 26 June 2024. The organizing committee is now open to receiving proposals for individual papers and pre-composed panels. The deadline to submit your proposals is 31 January 2024, decisions on accepted papers and panels will be made no later than 28 February 2024.

Contributions from diverse disciplines (law, politics, social sciences, philosophy etc.) are accepted. Papers with an interdisciplinary background are particularly encouraged.

It is well known that high-level international sport is an instrument of power, as seen right now in the sanctions on Russian sport after the invasion of Ukraine by Russian troops. We invite empirical, theoretical, and methodological papers from postgraduate students, early-career researchers, established academics and practitioners that address and interrogate, from a critical and global perspective, cultural, social, political, and experiential frameworks of sport.

Next year’s conference coincides with the 10th anniversary of the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty and, therefore, the first decade of a direct sport competence for the European Union. In our annual gathering we would like to critically analyse the extent to which EU sport policy has achieved its objectives during these first ten years.

The organisers aim to make this the most accessible event in our history. To add to the occasion, the conference will be held during the FIFA World Cup. Delegates, should they so wish, will also have free access to the annual EU Sports Law and Policy Summer School which will be held on July 5th, 2018, the day after the conference.
