The 2014 AIESEP World Congress will be held in Auckland (NZL) February 10-13. The theme of the Congress is “Educating for active healthy citizens.” Abstract reviewing is on progress. Additionally, there will be a Pre-Congress Symposium before the AIESEP World Congress on February 9, 2014 in Auckland, NZL organized by the TGfU Special Interest Group “Using TGfU to promote active and healthy citizens”. This special one-day symposium will focus on the latest research and advances in teaching games framed by TGfU approaches. The 2014 Young Scholar program will offer four grants aiming to support the participation of young researchers to the 2014 AIESEP World Congress in Auckland. Eligibility Criteria: Researchers at their early stages of scholarly development (during the latter portion of their graduate studies or a few years post Ph.D. completion). Applicants must be AIESEP members, reside and study outside of the conference hosting country (in this case must reside outside New Zealand). If selected, the Young Scholar will be expected to: (a) Present a short paper (oral or poster), and (b) Participate in a special meeting hosted by AIESEP during the conference. No more than one awardee from any one country and the number of grants depends on specific yearly budget. To apply, please submit: (a) CV, (b) one page description of intention for future involvement in Sport Pedagogy, (c) proof of status as PhD student or faculty member, (d) abstract of presentation, and (e) a letter of recommendation from an AIESEP Fellow (these individuals are listed on the AIESEP website). The application, via e-mail, should be addressed to the head of committee (Prof. Bryan McCullick – bamccull@uga.edu) no later than the December 15, 2013.

The Centenary of the inauguration of the athletes’ college of Reims (France) will be held October 19th, 1913. R. Poincaré, President of the French Republic, inaugurated the athletes’ college of Reims which was destroyed a few months later and never rebuilt. This institution remains, even today, registered in the professional memory and every book of history of Physical Education mentions it. Issues to be discussed at the celebration are: Why did athletes’ College mark so much the Professional representations?, Its conception, organized around the idea of a man whose work generates numerous historiographical work (we can mention for example the theses of J.M. Delaplace and P. Philippe-Meden) but also its implementation, combining sports training, Professional Teaching, school care, raise issues when it comes to rebuild the school through partnerships and rethink teacher training. On July 24-28, 2014 will be organized the “World Conference on Physical Education and Sport: Challenges and Future Directions” in Shanghai, Peoples Republic of China. The conference will address current educational practice and future directions of physical education and sport around the world. The purpose is for attendees to gain an understanding and appreciation of the challenges and opportunities for quality P-12, community, and university physical education programs, sport programming, and programs that focus on youth fitness and physical activity promotion around the world. The conference will accept papers related to physical education and sport in a broad range of areas. It will be extremely affordable: A $300 registration fee will cover three breakfasts, three lunches, three dinners (including an end-of-conference banquet), a day tour of Shanghai, opening ceremony, all conference transportation, and of course, the conference; student registration is $150; single and double rooms will be available for $100- $200 a night.
