Når stemmen avslører kroppen: Kroppsliggjøring og barrierer i esport [When the Voice Reveals the Body: Embodiment and Barriers in Esports] by Egil Trasti Rogstad

‘Ecce Ego’: Apollo, Dionysus, and Performative Social Media | A Summary, by Aurélien Daudi

Epitomized in the bodily exhibitions of ‘fitspiration’, photo-based social media is biased toward self-beautification and glorification of reality. Meanwhile, evidence is growing of psychological side effects connected to this ‘pictorial turn’ in our communication. This was the subject of Aurélien Daudi’s recent doctoral thesis, which the article here summarized is part of. The article calls for a critical reevaluation of our engagement with visual social media and raised awareness regarding how it influences us, individually and culturally. Book Review
Coaching Stories: Navigating Storms, Triumphs, and Transformations in Sport, by Stiliani “Ani” Chroni, Peter Olusoga, Kristen Dieffenbach & Göran Kenttä (eds.)

Coaching Stories: Navigating Storms, Triumphs, and Transformations in Sport, edited by Stiliani “Ani” Chroni, Peter Olusoga, Kristen Dieffenbach & Göran Kenttä (Routledge) unveils the storms and triumphs of coaching in the form of case studies. According to Sanna Erdoğan, this is a long-awaited contribution to the field of coaching by coach educators and developers. By no means uncritical, our reviewer still deems it as paramount to scholars looking for practical considerations when discussing coaching and to people willing to change traditional norms or expand their knowledge of coaching practices. (Review in English, published 250318.)
Idrottsarvet: Årets bok 2023 [The Legacy of Sports: 2023 Yearbook from Gothenburg’s Sports Museum], by Cege Berglund (ed.)
The highly active Sports Museum in Gothenburg includes in its activities the publication of a well-stocked yearbook, Idrottsarvet. We asked Anders Östnäs to review the latest edition and he found it very useful for those interested in sports history. A rich set of images helps to highlight both individual articles and the entire yearbook. (Review in Swedish, published 250319.)
Passion and Addiction in Sports and Exercise, by Attila Szabo & Zsolt Demetrovics

There are bright and dark aspects of sports and exercise behaviour – passion and addiction. In their new book Passion and Addiction in Sports and Exercise (Routledge), Attila Szabo and Zsolt Demetrovics attempt to explain the significant differences between them. Stuart Carrington appreciates their point of departure, the concept of harmonious versus obsessive passion. From then on, its critical scholarly work throughout the book, and thus beneficial reading. However, the treatment chapter would have gained from greater depth and accuracy. (Review in English, published 250320.)
Exploring ways of empowering pupils in physical eduacation through circus, by Matilda Lindberg

On September 27, 2024, Matilda Lindberg defended her doctoral thesis Exploring ways of empowering pupils in physical education through circus: An action research project (Malmö University Press), in which she argues for changes in the school subject of physical education and health – more circus in teaching. The book is reviewed here by Stine Degerbøl, a former acrobat whose doctoral thesis dealt with contemporary circus. Stine shares the author’s conviction about the potential of circus activities to renew the conventional structure of the school subject of physical education and health. (Book in English, review in Danish, published 250320.)
