Visit the 26th EASM – The European Sport Management Conference in the exciting city of Malmö, Sweden! The theme of this year’s conference is Managing Sport in a Changing Europe. The conference attracts several hundred delegates from universities and sport-related organizations at different levels in Sweden, Europe and the rest of the world.

The overall theme for this conference is “Inclusive and Innovative Physical activity, Sport and Health Education for Sustainable Development in Africa”. We welcome professionals, scholars, and practitioners in the broad fields of Exercise and Sport Science, Physical Education, Urban Planning, Nutrition, Sports for Peace and Development, Leisure and Recreation Studies from across the globe.

At the centre of both sport and cultural performance are bodies. In the spectacles of professional or amateur sport, plays, musicals, dance, and opera, bodies are made to transcend their fleshly existence by the mise-en-scène and the audience contract. The (sport) spectacle transforms the embodied subject of the athlete/actor into a representation of human potential and possibility.

The notion of ‘endangered bodies’, or bodies in danger, arises from our concern with current Western political and socio-economic tendencies and practices against the discriminated or disenfranchised Other, whose body is physically, materially and symbolically subjected to internal pressures towards normalization and homogenization.

The symposium seeks to address this lack of knowledge, exploring the design of different sport and recreational landscapes over time and how they have given expression to various understandings of nature and culture. What are the relationships between sport landscapes and their environment? What is the relationship between the site itself and the culture of sports and recreation embedded within it?

Focusing on participation and inclusion in global sports from a historical and modern-day perspective, we look to better understand how and why certain types of people are allowed to participate and others are not. We will expand beyond soccer/football into a cross-section of sports and focus on what is being done to address these inequalities.

As early as the first Olympic Games, sport has moved to the harmonies of music. Across the globe, sport and music occupy the same space to set the tone of a sporting event, serve as a backdrop for a performance, support an athlete in their development and preparation, or facilitate the delivery of fitness training. Sport and music forge communities, imbue national pride, and promote cultural identities.

This symposium offers presentations and discussions on the preparations, performances and experiences from OWG 2018. Speakers include Helge Bartnes, Norway; Peter Reinebo, Sweden; Mika Kojonkoski,Finland; Matthias Felix Gilgien, Norway; Olli Ohtonen, Finland; Stefan Lindinger, Sweden.
