The Applied Sport Management Association (ASMA) aims to build strong connections between scholars studying sport and practitioners working in the sport industry. In particular, ASMA seeks to foster a supportive environment in which emerging scholars and aspiring professionals can exchange ideas and strengthen relationships

The CSSOR Program Committee invites high-quality academic work on either the Olympic Movement or broader sport studies topics such as race, gender, politics, legacy, youth, or disability., in all of its forms, from scholars in the fields of history, philosophy, communication, ancient and modern languages, literature, visual and performing arts, anthropology, sociology, cultural studies, economics, marketing, and law.

NASSM invites individuals to submit abstracts, including empirical, methodological, conceptual, and teaching-related types. Submissions will begin to be accepted on October 1, 2018. Both completed research and research in progress is acceptable. All abstracts will be subjected to a blind review. No preference will be given to longer abstracts.

Abstractmottagningen är nu öppen för SVEBIs årliga konferens i Falun, 21-22 november 2018. Bidrag på såväl svenska som engelska är välkomna. Abstract får skickas in tom 10 maj 2018. Vi är mycket glada att kunna presentera två keynote-föreläsare för SVEBI 2018 i Falun: Prof. Brett Smith från University of Birmingham, UK, och Prof. Sigmund Loland från Norges idrettshøgskole, Olso.

The Equine History Collective (EHC) invites you to attend its first annual conference, to take place Nov. 30 – Dec. 2 at Cal Poly Pomona, in partnership with the W.K. Kellogg Arabian Horse Library. The theme of the conference is “Why Equine History Matters,” meant to show the relevance of equine history for historical studies.

There is recognition that law and sports (as games) bear strong similarities. Both can be understood as systems of rules, with a judge/referee who has the power to issue punishments/penalties. And the rules of cricket and rugby are known as ‘laws’ in English. This workshop aims to discuss jurisprudential issues in sports, falling under the broad themes of justice and fairness (equity/Billigkeit).

The theme of this year’s conference theme, “Sociology of Sport and Alternative Futures” recognizes that our field is facing unprecedented challenges not only over funding and resources but also in terms of its legitimacy and relevance. The 2019 World Congress of Sociology of Sport provides an ideal platform to reflect, evaluate and contemplate the past, present, and future of the field.

The project of creating a ‘New Man’ and ‘New Woman’ initiated in the Soviet Union and the Eastern Bloc constituted one of the most extensive efforts to remake human psychophysiology in modern history. How did science, culture and medicine overlap with a mode of government that sought to manage, cultivate and regulate human life?

Sport promotes a shared sense of belonging and participation and may therefore also be an important tool for the integration of immigrants. The link between language and sport is, therefore, a very interesting issue which pushes one unto reflecting about identitarian expressions and to rethink integration of immigrants and all citizens.
