South of England Sport and Leisure History Network
South Central Branch: Summer 2014 Workshop
University of Winchester
Saturday 14th June 2014
The British Society of Sports History’s South of England Sport and Leisure History Network (BSSH South) aims to bring together individuals in Greater London, the South East and the East of England who share an interest in the history of leisure in all of its forms (including sport, cinema-going, popular music, reading, tourism, shopping for pleasure, etc.). BSSH South will be holding a one-day workshop on Saturday, 14th June at the University of Winchester, in what is the inaugural event for the network’s South Central Branch (comprising the counties of Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, and Hampshire).
The workshop organisers are seeking papers for the following three panels:
- Leisure in Wartime
- Leisure, Sex and Sexuality
- Leisure and National Identities
If you would be interested in giving a paper on one of these themes, please send an abstract (c. 200-300 words; please also identify which panel you would like to speak on) and a brief biography to the organizers at bsshsouthcentral@gmail.com by Wednesday, 30th April. Papers focusing on the South of England are particularly welcome, but we will consider all proposals, providing they meet one of the stated panel themes.
