Tourism Economics, published bimonthly from SAGE, is an international peer-reviewed journal that publishes the latest quality research that covers the business aspects of tourism in the wider context. Tourism Economics is SSCI-indexed, with an impact factor of 0.942 in 2017.
Purpose
This special issue aims to analyze the relationship between sports and tourism from a wide perspective to examine the resulting economic impacts on destinations and/or tourism firms. Considering the importance of some national and international sports events, the provision of new analytical tools and relevant research outcomes becomes critical, not only for the host territories and their businesses but also for the countries and cities taking part in the competition via sports teams and/or individual athletes (e.g. Can the tourism industry of a country be influenced by the final position of the country’s sports team in a competition?).
This special issue seeks to provide new results that shed light on the intricacies of the sport-tourism relationship by inviting submissions on all facets of the economic impact of sports on tourism. Suggested topics include, but are not limited to the following:
-
- The impact of sports events on the host territory (country, city)
- The impact of sports events on the territory taking part (country, city)
- The relationship between sports results and tourism performance
- Sports event demand forecasting
- Sports event optimal design
