Welcome to another year with idrottsforum.org!

Dear all,

Ihope you had a pleasant and productive start of the new year. From today, idrottsforum.org is in full swing, but we also did do a bit of work over the holidays, some of which is visible in the list below. But before getting into that, I’d like to present some statistics.
During 2024 we managed to publish 19 research articles, of which 9 were peer reviewed; 15 feature articles; 96 book reviews; 13 blog posts; 163 scholarly journal issue presentations; and 237 news items.
We recorded 226.852 page views in that time, and 4.700 pdf files (primarily research articles) were downloaded. By December 31, 2024, there were a total of 10.310 posts published on idrottsforum.org, a total of 421 blog posts on the forumbloggen, and altogether 105 peer reviewed articles in Scandinavian Sport Studies Forum.
And over the holidays the following items were published on idrottsforum.org (see below; language and publication dates, YYMMDD, in brackets). Click on the red headings to go to content. Utilize the Google Translate service to turn Scandinavian language pages into (some sort of) English.
Have a great week,
Kjell Eriksson

Book Reviews

Proletären FF – en del av världen, 50 år [Proletären FC – a part of the world, at 50], by Bengt Frejd & alia

The Proletären FC clubhouse, built by members in 1979. (Painting by Solveig Stampe)

Just over 50 years ago, Proletären FC was formed by a group of young guys from Gothenburg, strongly influenced by left-wing ideas, political visions and solidarity. Now, just over 90 co-authors have written the club’s history. The book is about 400 pages long and contains personal reflections, historical retrospectives and analyses of the world around us, divided into about 150 different articles. Our reviewer has been carefully chosen – Torbjörn Andersson, Sweden’s foremost football historian – and he calls the book “Swedish sports’ most ambitious jubilee book ever”. (Review in Swedish, published 250108.)

Bollen i rörelse: Tjejfotboll, fostran och normkritik i den urbana periferin [The ball in motion: Girls’ football, upbringing and norm criticism in the urban periphery], by David Ekholm, Ulrika Wernesjö & Magnus Dahlstedt

(Generated with AI, January 14, 2025, 11:22)

In this book by David Ekholm, Ulrika Wernesjö & Magnus Dahlstedt (Linköping University) an integration initiative, Bollen [The Ball], in a Swedish city is studied, whose purpose and ambition is to integrate young immigrant girls through playing football. The book presents and analyses this initiative based on a discussion of the potential of sport to solve social problems. Our reviewer Anders Östnäs is impressed by both the integration initiative and the research study of it. (Review in Swedish, published 250114.)
