In this study, Svein Bergem and Eva K. Robertson want to contribute to a deeper understanding of the (bodily) experiences and knowledge related to adaptive equipment that children and young people with disabilities, guardians, and service providers convey. They discuss how such experiences can be recognized and given room for in the established service delivery system. The study is inspired by a (body) phenomenological approach and is based on interviews and conversations with a total of 11 children and young people, guardians and service providers. Book Reviews

Fagdidaktik i idræt [Subject didactics in sports], by Kasper Lasthein Madsen & Annemari Munk Svendsen (eds.)

The anthology Fagdidaktik i idræt (Frydenlund), edited by Kasper Lasthein Madsen & Annemari Munk Svendsen, presents selected didactic approaches that can pave the way for quality and continuous physical education through primary and secondary school. Joacim Andersson has read the book with great interest, and his knowledgeable review problematizes parts of the content and points to certain shortcomings, but at the same time underlines the book’s many positive aspects. (Book in Danish, review in Swedish, published 230919.)

Soccer and Society in Dublin: A History of Association Football in Ireland’s Capital, by Conor Curran

Conor Curran’s Soccer and Society in Dublin: A History of Association Football in Ireland’s Capital (Four Courts Press) is the first full-length assessment of the history of soccer in Dublin and the game’s role within society in the city. Sports (and not least football) historian Hans Bolling read the book at our behest, and he found too much empirical detail about soccer at the expense of society, while also recognizing the value of the empirical material in the book for future studies of Irish football and of the development of football in other European capitals. The Making of a Global FIFA: Cold War Politics and the Rise of João Havelange to the FIFA Presidency, 1950–1974, by Luiz Guilherme Burlamaqui

In 1974, the Brazilian sports official João Havelange was elected FIFA’s seventh president since 1903. Havelange’s road to power has been mapped in a doctoral dissertation, The Making of a Global FIFA: Cold War Politics and the Rise of João Havelange to the FIFA Presidency, 1950–1974 by Luiz Guilherme Burlamaqui (de Gruyter). Historian Björn Horgby is our appreciative reviewer, apart from some marginal remarks, and he foresees Burlamaqui’s study becoming a standard work in various branches of sports research.
