Dear all,
I’m pleased to be able to let you know that the book I’ve been working on lately (as a publisher, not a writer) about Swedish sport studies celebrating 50 years, is nearing completion. Later this week I will send all the files to the printer and thenceforth devote my focus and energies anew on idrottsforum.org. Thanks for your patience with the poor outcome of late.
Last week the following items were published on idrottsforum.org (see below; language and publication dates, YYMMDD, in brackets). Click on the red headings to go to content. Utilize the Google Translate service to turn Scandinavian language pages into (some sort of) English.
Have a great week,
Kjell Eriksson

”Den engelska modellen”: Arbetet mot fotbollsvåld i England – bakgrund, åtgärder, effekter [“The English model”: Strategies against football violence in England – background, measures, effects]

The article by Anders Almgren, Filip Lundberg Verendel, Neil Williams & Jonas Havelund reviews how football-related disturbances in England have been handled from the 1950s to the early 2000s. The focus is on legislation with a emphasis on, among other things, alcohol restrictions, public inspections, national and international suspensions and bans on stands. In addition, both the driving forces of the process and the effects of the measures are discussed, as well as the importance of balancing repressive measures against preventive efforts and dialogue. Book Reviews
Women’s sport and transgender inclusion: The counter biological argument, by Helen E. Parker, Beth Hands & Elizabeth Rose
Transwomen appearing in the female category in competitive sports is a hotly contested issue with a number of articles and books representing various conflicting views. Australian public opinion is decidedly for transwomen’s rights in this respect. This is why Lotta Wendel calls Women’s sport and transgender inclusion: The counter biological argument by Australian scholars Helen E. Parker, Beth Hands & Elizabeth Rose (Common Ground) a brave endeavor, since the authors argue from a biological point of view for a third category in competitive sports. Grassroots Coaching: Using Sports Psychology and Coaching Principles Effectively, by Peter J. McGahey & Peter S. Pierro
Coaching is a booming and growing industry, particularly in youth sports. Coaches need educational resources to enter the profession as either a paid coach or a volunteer. According to our reviewer, Nicholas Zoraya, McGahey & Pierro’s Grassroots Coaching: Using Sports Psychology and Coaching Principles Effectively (Rowman & Littlefield) fills this need excellently, providing both the psychological and coaching skills required to develop a team holistically with strategies that will enhance the coach’s leadership skills. Mestrene: Roman [The Masters: A Novel), by Malte Tellerup

Malte Tellerup’s Mestrene (Lindhardt & Ringhof) is an autobiographical novel about growing up in a sporting environment – about family, handball, hall culture, about being queer in a masculine-dominated society in the 00s. The book is reviewed here by Alice Riis Bach, and she recommends it because it challenges the novel genre and expands the meaning of the concept of sports novel through its criticism of the ruthless winning culture of elite sports.
