Dear all,
That was the week that was, and what a week that was. We shall not dwell on what was, or rather what wasn’t; suffice it to say that things didn’t go as planned.
On the other hand, this week is definitely something to talk about. Today is Sweden’s National Day, which is a national holiday. It wasn’t always like that. It used to be an official flag-flying day, a day on which the Swedish flag was flown, but in 1983 the 6th of June was elevated to Sweden’s National Day, and from 2005 also a public holiday. To avoid negative effects on the national economy another public holiday was abolished, Whit Monday. This year, ironically, the National Day takes place on just that day, Whit Monday.
However, on June 6 every year since 2004 we celebrate the coming of idrottsforum.org. It was on that day in 2003 that the Forum was unleashed on the internet. We’ve been going on for 19 years to the day, and we’re not quitting anytime soon.
So, today is a holiday, and tomorrow and the day after a two day staff meeting takes place, with the department from which idrottsforum.org operates. There will be things published during the week, but many things will be put on hold until next week.
Anyway, last week the following items were published on idrottsforum.org (see below; language and publication dates, YYMMDD, in brackets). Click on the red headings to go to content. Utilize the Google Translate service to turn Scandinavian language pages into (some sort of) English.
Have a great week,
Kjell Eriksson

Book Reviews
Barn i rörelse: Om förutsättningar för utveckling i alternativa (?) idrottsaktiviteter [Children in Motion: Alternative Sports Activities as Settings for Developing Interest in Physical Activity] by Johan Högman
(Published in Swedish 220601.)
The Fastest Game in the World: Hockey and the globalization of sports by Bruce Berglund
Played on frozen ponds in cold northern lands, hockey seemed an especially unlikely game to gain a global following. Bruce Berglund’s The Fastest Game in the World (University of California Press) is a global history of a global sport, drawing upon research conducted around the world. Bo Carlsson, sport sociology professor who favors ice hockey over other sports, found a well-written and enjoyable history of hockey, but he sorely misses the critical sociological gaze. (Published in English 220602.)
