The emergence of a national sport event policy in Denmark

Christian Tolstrup Jensen’s peer reviewed article analyses the development of the sport event policy in the case of Denmark, a small, Western country with no mega sport event hosting experience. Based on an analysis of archival documents, media coverage and interviews with representatives of sport federations, municipalities, and the organisations carrying out the event policy, the paper traces the start of the policy to 1994 when the Danish sport confederation (DIF) founded the Sports Foundation Denmark. Book Reviews
Idrettsetikk [Sports Ethics], by Sigmund Loland

What values should children and young people learn in sport? What does the ideal of fair play entail? How can we justify the ban on doping in sport? These are some of the ethical issues in sports that Sigmund Loland, sport philosophy professor at the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences discusses in Idrettsetikk (Fagbokforlaget). Kutte Jönsson, our resident sport philosopher underlines the importance of continually considering ethics in sports, and he sees Sigmund Loland as an excellent interlocutor and cicerone for those discussions. Female Olympian and Paralympian Athlete Activists: Breaking Records, Glass Ceilings, and Social Codes, by Linda K. Fuller

Athlete activism by female Olympians and Paralympians is wide-ranging, with a colorful, sometimes contentious history blending sport and society. Linda K. Fuller’s Female Olympian and Paralympian Athlete Activists highlights 800+ women from 90 countries (including the Refugee Olympic Team). Our reviewer Alan Bairner is duly impressed by the author’s effort, noting unexpected inclusions and surprising omissions, while at the same time being slightly puzzled as to the purpose of the book.
