That Was The Week That Was,
April 11–17, 2022

Dear all,

As expected, last week was an unremarkable week in terms of output on idrottsforum.org – although probably not so in most other aspects of life and existence. For many people of religion, Easter is the biggest occasion of the year, or so I’m told. For the people of Ukraine, every new week is likely the worst week of their lives. This is true as well for people in Yemen, Ethiopia and many other countries and parts of countries across the globe. On balance, these are probably the worst of times for a long time, even considering the recent pandemic. We must keep that in mind while still going about our business, in our case making sense of sports.
Last week the following items were published on idrottsforum.org (see below; language and publication dates, YYMMDD, in brackets). Click on section headings to go to content. Utilize the Google Translate service to turn Scandinavian language pages into (some sort of) English.
Have a great week,
Kjell Eriksson

Book Review

The Sisterhood: The 99ers and the Rise of U.S. Women’s Soccer by Rob Goldman

Rob Goldman’s «The Sisterhood: The 99ers and the Rise of U.S. Women’s Soccer» (University of Nebraska Press) is the story of the first and second generations of national team players who were the driving force behind the rise of U.S. women’s soccer and who built the foundation for the team’s enduring success. Bente Ovedie Skogvang, legendary football referee and prominent women’s football scholar, finds Goldman’s efforts highly recommendable for a wide readership. (Review in English, published 220412)

  1. Kjell,
Yes, we need to keep our eye on sport, but not as you suggest to the challenge in the broader world. Very well said. Thanks for the reminder. Have a good week
    Duncan
