The EJSS is the official journal of the European College of Sport Science. The Journal of the Philosophy of Sport provides a forum for discussion of philosophical issues – metaphysical, ethical, epistemological, aesthetic, or otherwise – arising in sport, games, play, dance, embodiment, and other motor-related activities. The International Journal of Sport Policy and Politics aims to publish articles that address all aspects of sport policy irrespective of academic discipline. Articles that adopt a multi-disciplinary, inter-disciplinary or comparative approach are particularly welcome.

The considerable growth of interest in commerce, media and politics and their relationship to sport in international academia has resulted in academics in various disciplines writing about sport. Sport in Society is a multi-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary forum for academics to discuss the growing relationship of sport to significant areas of modern life.

Anna Qvarfordt’s doctoral thesis Anti-doping – a legitimate effort? Elite athletes’ perspectives on policy and practice is, some shortcomings notwithstanding, a well-conceived and original study of high quality, probing the global anti-doping system in sports, according to our reviewer, Sigmund Loland, who was the external examiner at her dissertation defence.

Sport, Ethics and Philosophy publishes high quality articles from a wide variety of philosophical traditions, and is particularly open to essays of applied philosophy that engage with issues or practice, policy and scholarship concerning the nature and values of sports.

The title of the anthology The Ethics of Sport: Essential Readings, edited by Arthur L. Caplan & Brendan Parent (Oxford University Press), is essentially a misnomer, according to our reviewer, Shawn Klein. The collected journal articles deal only occasionally with ethics, and the book’s purpose and audience is basically unclear. Some contributions, though, are worthy of the title.

The purpose of the Sociology of Sport Journal is to stimulate and communicate research, critical thought, and theory development on issues pertaining to the sociology of sport. The journal publishes peer-reviewed empirical, theoretical, and position papers; book reviews; and critical essays.

Conferences more often than not end up as anthologies or special journal issues. And indeed, Doping and Public Health, edited by Nader Ahmadi, Arne Ljungqvist & Göran Svedsäter (Routledge) is a conference report, and according to our reviewer Ask Vest Christiansen nor an altogether necessary addition to the already extensive body of literature on doping.
