The purpose of the Sociology of Sport Journal is to stimulate and communicate research, critical thought, and theory development on issues pertaining to the sociology of sport. The journal publishes peer-reviewed empirical, theoretical, and position papers; book reviews; and critical essays.

Conferences more often than not end up as anthologies or special journal issues. And indeed, Doping and Public Health, edited by Nader Ahmadi, Arne Ljungqvist & Göran Svedsäter (Routledge) is a conference report, and according to our reviewer Ask Vest Christiansen nor an altogether necessary addition to the already extensive body of literature on doping.

Temanumret av Sport, Ethics and Philosophy som utkom inför OS i London 2012 finns nu som antologi, Olympic Ethics and Philosophy av redaktörerna Mike McNamee & Jim Parry (Routledge). Kutte Jönsson gläds åt bokutgivningen; värdet av de ingående texterna överskrider ett enskilt OS.

Björn Sandahl har tagit sig an antologin The Youth Olympic Games sammanställd av Dag Vidar Hanstad, Milena M. Parent & Barrie Houlihan (Routledge). Kanske något prematur, definitivt något spretig och med diffus målgrupp, är boken ändå ett innehållsrikt, viktigt och välkommet bidrag till den olympiska avknoppningsforskningen.

Kenneth Aggerholm has read Cesar R. Torres’ edited volume The Bloomsbury Companion to the Philosophy of Sport, where a number of proficient scholars converge and contribute to what amounts to a truly good companion.

The pursuit of interdisciplinarity in sport studies in the hope of breaking the natural and biosciences hegemony in the field is the objective of editor Joseph Maguire’s collected volume Social Sciences in Sport. Alan Bairner reviews the effort and finds much to appreciate, but apparently, this is not the holy grail that the social sciences of sport urgently need.

I Fair Play in Sport (Routledge) presenterar Sigmund Loland en kritisk omarbetning av det klassiska idealet om fair play och utforskar dess praktiska konsekvenser för tävlingsidrott. Genom att koppla samman allmänna moraliska principer och praktiska fall utvecklar boken en samtida teori om rent spel. David Hoff har inte fått alla svar hans önskade men finner att boken väcker intressanta moraliska spörsmål rörande idrottens fair play.
