This is the subject of Deborah Agnew’s edited collection Athlete Transitions into Retirement: Experiences in Elite Sport and Options for Effective Support (Routledge). Christian Augustsson’s creditable review highlights several important contributions to the book and the research field, that show the complexity of the process and the need for support for athletes.
