Call for Abstracts | The Hockey Conference X: Hockey in a Changing World | Saint Mary’s University, Halifax, June 5–7, 2020. Call ends March 13, 2020

This is the tenth anniversary of The Hockey Conference, which was founded by Dr. Colin Howell at Saint Mary’s. The 2020 Conference will occur in a meaningful place and at a meaningful time. Events occurring in Halifax around that time include the Women’s World Hockey Championships, the North American Indigenous Games, and the opening of the new ice rink on campus, the Dauphinee Centre.

Photographs of sport, and of its most popular athletes, have long been essential not only to sports reporting but also to the commercial exploitation of professional sport. To coincide with our forthcoming exhibition of the football photography of the photojournalist Peter Robinson, this colloquium aims to contribute to a scholarly and critical engagement with the relationship between photography and sport.

For the ISHPES Congress Sapporo 2020 scholars are invited to submit proposals for sessions which include three papers and abstracts related to the main topic “Sport History and Interdisciplinary Relations in the Year of the Tokyo Games 2020” or individual abstracts on a subtopic. Each author can only submit one abstract. The oral presentations will each be 20 minutes followed by 10 minutes for discussion.

SLA is a non-profit, international, professional organization whose common goal is the understanding, advancement and ethical practice of sports law. The purpose of the academic section of SLA is to bring industry and the academy together and to introduce SLA membership to the timely research conducted on sport law topics.

Call for Papers | “Motor-Cognitive Interactions”, the 2020 conference on “Movement: Brain, Body, Cognition” | La Sorbonne, Paris, September 3–5, 2020. Call ends January 15, 2020

The aim of the conference is to share knowledge on the relation of human movement to cognitive function. The focus this year, among other things, will be on the Brain-Gut connection and Movement, Development and Aging, the Neuropsychology of cognitive-motor interaction (evaluation and treatment), Physical Education as a tool for cognitive improvement, Gender issues in Movement and Cognition and other focus areas.

One of the highlights of the North American Society for Sport History is its annual conference. Held through the years at various locations in the United States and Canada, the conference provides an opportunity for individuals to share their latest research, serves as an opportunity for individuals with similar scholarly interests to share ideas, and furnishes an occasion to pay tribute to those who have served the organization and to recognize outstanding scholarship.

The Leisure Studies Association is delighted to open the first call for abstracts for its annual conference in 2020. The conference offers the opportunity to explore leisure from a range of disciplinary perspectives, and to learn from industry and policy practitioners. We welcome submissions that address the core themes of the conference: leisure pasts, presents and futures, and are open to those that address any other area of leisure research, teaching and practice.

The fourth annual International Football History Conference will take place at the Hibernian Football Club, Easter Road Stadium, 12 Albion Place, Edinburgh, EH7 5QG, Scotland, and will be held over two days (Friday 5 and Saturday 6 June 2020). This is a call for papers to be presented at the conference. There will be an opportunity to present on any topic relating to the history of football of any and all codes.

Abstracts should reflect (but are not limited to) research addressing social-cultural, legal, financial, economic, political, administrative, or historical college-sport issues. The research should have reached a fairly complete stage of development, and the abstract should provide enough detail about the research, so reviewers have sufficient information to judge the research’s quality.
