    Well-researched and written collection brilliantly covering deviances in various areas of sports

    In Jörg Krieger’s and Stephan Wassong’s edited collection Dark Sides of Sport (Common Ground), leading international scholars explore multifaceted historical and contemporary challenges for sport. We asked Mark Brooke at the National University of Singapore for a review. Our reviewer is very appreciative of the book; it fills a void in the existing academic literature as it explores, in one book, various areas of deviance that pose a threat to sport.

    Idrott är i huvudsak en lokal företeelse, om än på ganska skilda nivåer. Platsen är viktig, och därmed geografiska aspekter av idrottsutövning. Detta behandlas i antologin Critical Geographies of Sport: Space, power and sport in global perspective sammanställd av Natalie Koch (Routledge). Karin Book är inte helt nöjd med boken.

    Asia Pacific Journal of Sport and Social Science is an international peer-reviewed journal which publishes original research contributions to scientific knowledge. Articles that adopt a multi-disciplinary, inter-disciplinary or comparative approach are also welcome. Most of the articles that are published in the journal will be based on qualitative or mixed-method research. However, consideration will be given to quantitative studies which are sufficiently theorised.

    Two text books on the sociology of sport that probably work best together

    In this original review for idrottsforum.org, Jay Coakley takes on two introductory textbooks in the sociology of sport, Sport Sociology by Peter Craig and Sport and Society, edited by Barrie Houlihan & Dominic Malcolm (both Sage Publications). His critical analysis from the point of view of the academic teacher leads him to a well-argued conclusions that will be rewarding reading for teachers as well as for the respective author/editors.

    A significant and meaningful contribution to the academic field of sport and gender studies

    To Anne Tjønndal, woman and boxer, Global Perspectives on Women in Combat Sports: Women Warriors around the World, edited by Alex Channon & Christopher R. Matthews (Palgrave Macmillan), was a satisfying read – a valuable contribution to the field of gender and sports.
