Till seminariet samlas beslutsfattare, forskare, tränare samt andra nyckelpersoner inom ridsporten. De som deltar inledningsvis är Susanna Hedenborg, professor på Malmö universitet, Karin Redelius, professor på GIH, och Therese Waerner, doktorand på GIH. De kommer att lyfta forskningen och samtala om ledarskap och delaktighet samt hur kan vi öka ungas delaktighet inom ridsporten.

In many countries, riding is considered something for the upper classes, but in Sweden, the sport has gained a prominent place thanks to the riding schools. “Here, it has been in the state's interest that all children should be able to learn to ride,” says Susanna Hedenborg, Malmö University, researcher behind a new study on the development of Swedish riding schools.

This conference brings together an international and interdisciplinary field of researchers. The unifying interest in the conference is scientific questions about the horse as well as the horse in society and the relation between humans and horses. In focus for the conference this year are questions regarding past, present and future challenges in relation to horse – human activities and interaction.

In our fifth instalment of horse sessions at the International Medieval Congress, we especially invite submissions in horse history responding to the special thematic strand of IMC 2020: borders. We also invite papers in horse history coming from all disciplinary approaches, including military studies, literature and art history, oriental studies, archaeology, osteology, history of veterinary medicine, and others.

Submissions may investigate any equine in the past, including donkeys, mules, zebras and onagers. The theme of the conference is “Embodied Equines,” inviting papers that explore both how people have understood, shaped, sustained, and used equine bodies, and tried to capture and understand equine experiences. Topics might include training, feeding, veterinary care, production, disposal, or behavior.

Syftet med denna avhandling är att identifiera och synliggöra uppfattningar om ridlärarrollen och dess historiska och samtida villkor som styr och påverkar denna roll. Ridlärarrollen har studerats från flera perspektiv med fokus på dåtid och samtid för att bringa mer kunskap och förståelse om dess funktion och konstruktion inför framtid.

We invite papers for special sessions on medieval equestrian history for the International Medieval Congress at Leeds in 2017. We welcome papers on theoretical and practical aspects of medieval equestrianism, as well as for the special strand of IMC 2017, ‘Otherness’. We also accept papers using experimental and reconstruction approaches building on profound scholarly research.

Större mångfald inom ridsporten. Det är målet när professor Susanna Hedenborg på Svenska ridsportförbundets uppdrag ska utreda hur sporten kan locka fler grupper. – Det är ingen hemlighet att ridsporten inte är värst integrerad. Det är i dag en sport för flickor med svensk bakgrund, säger Susanna Hedenborg.
