Boyhood Studies: An Interdisciplinary Journal is a peer-reviewed journal providing a forum for the discussion of boyhood, young masculinities, and boys’ lives by exploring the full scale of intricacies, challenges, and legacies that inform male and masculine developments, committed to a critical and international scope.

This call for papers focuses on innovative historical work on women and physical culture practices. Since the 1970s, there has been an increase in research and scholarship devoted to the topic. The editors encourage the submission of papers on the theme of women and physical culture practices from a range of temporal, geographic, methodological and thematic perspectives.

The Transnational Working Group for the Study of Gender and Sport invites scholars from the field of gender research in sport to the annual meeting in Vienna, Austria. From the quadrilles of Jane Austen to the Ballets Russes, dance continues to shape our understanding of the literature, art, and history of the nineteenth century. This special panel will prepare conference attendees for an optional nineteenth-century dance workshop at the conference, hosted by the Graduate Caucus.

What is it about culture and society that creates an environment in which an athlete is able to excel or fail in his/her respective sport? Which factors, such as racism, discrimination, financial advantage or hardship, propel or hinder an athlete’s achievements? This volume seeks to explore how the world of sports is often a microcosm of the real world and the many ways in which it uniquely reflects cultural and societal issues.

This special issue of the Sociology of Sport seeks to broaden the geographical, theoretical, social, cultural and intercultural scope of writing about women, gender and sport by assembling key contributions from feminist sport research undertaken in or by scholars from the Global South.
