Women in Sport and Physical Activity Journal (WSPAJ) is a peer-reviewed scholarly journal devoted to advancing the understanding of women in sport and physical activity. WSPAJ is the official journal of the Program for the Advancement of Girls and Women in Sport and Physical Activity, housed in the Center for Women's Health and Wellness at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

At the centre of both sport and cultural performance are bodies. In the spectacles of professional or amateur sport, plays, musicals, dance, and opera, bodies are made to transcend their fleshly existence by the mise-en-scène and the audience contract. The (sport) spectacle transforms the embodied subject of the athlete/actor into a representation of human potential and possibility.

The notion of ‘endangered bodies’, or bodies in danger, arises from our concern with current Western political and socio-economic tendencies and practices against the discriminated or disenfranchised Other, whose body is physically, materially and symbolically subjected to internal pressures towards normalization and homogenization.

Founded in 2005, the working group aims for a transnational and interdisciplinary exchange of researchers with an interest in the study of sport and gender. The program of the 11th annual meeting focuses on sexism, discrimination, sexual harassment and violence studies in the field of Physical Education and sport, LGBTQ+, as well as leadership and coaches' perspectives.

Books in this series focus on the latest conceptual, methodological and theoretical developments in feminist thinking about bodies, movement, physicality, leisure and technology to understand and problematize new framings of feminine embodiment.

Much of the research on the relationship between sport and masculinity in the 20th century documented how heterosexual men and boys were regulated by an orthodox form of masculinity. This handbook is intended to further examine the changing relationship between contemporary sports (broadly conceived) and masculinities.

Trygve B. Broch er førsteamanuensis ved Institutt for Folkehelse, Høgskolen i Innlandet. 2017-2018 er Broch Fulbright forsker ved Center for Cultural Sociology ved Yale University. Han jobber med å utvikle kultursosiologiske perspektiver generelt, og det sterke programmet spesielt, i sosiologisk forskning på idrett.

The 2018 Yearbook of Women’s History will focus on the making of ‘the sporting body’ as a concept full of ambiguous cultural meanings and impact, and invites papers which discuss the historical formation, transformation and impact of gendered discourses, representations and practices within sport and physical culture.
