From individual groundbreaking work to established field of research: The development of humanities and social science engagement with the cultural phenomenon of sport in Sweden

Samhällsidrotten och idrottssamhället. Humanistisk och samhällsvetenskaplig idrottsforskning under 50 år [Sport in society and the society of sports. Humanistic and social science sports research over 50 years] is edited by Tomas Peterson and published as a celebration of 50 years of Swedish sport studies within the social sciences and humanities. We went abroad to find a suitable reviewer – not a Swede but Swedish speaking – and Ansgar Molzberger accepted the cumbersome task of reviewing this 556 page tome. And he did well, we are happy to bring his review to your attention.

A special issue presenting a thematically wide-ranging interim status of research on Sámi sport

Idrott, historia & samhälle [Sport, History & Society] is a scientific forum for sports history research. It is primarily a platform for sports historians in Sweden and the rest of the Nordic countries. The 2023 special issue is titled “Ethnic relations in the sporting periphery: historical studies from the North Calotte” ans deals with Sámi sports. Ansgar Molzberger is our reviewer, and he finds the issue important and the articles interesting but would have liked a stronger link between the individual contributions and their categorization in a larger research context.

Vi skickade boken för recension till Ansgar Molzberger vid Deutsche Sporthochschule Köln, som hade stort nöje av att läsa Anderssons kulturhistoriska bandyhistorik.
