Call for Participation | “Modern Matriarchy: Native American Women in Sport”, virtual guest talk by Dr. Natalie M. Welch | October 27, 2022, 12:30pm EST

On Thursday, October 27th, 2022, the Department of Kinesiology at Towson University will be hosting a virtual guest speaker event in conjunction with our undergraduate course on women’s sport.

We are pleased and excited to announce that our guest speaker this fall will be Dr. Natalie M. Welch (she/her) of Seattle University. Dr. Welch’s talk is titled, “Modern Matriarchy: Native American Women in Sport”.

Dr. Welch is an assistant professor at Seattle University teaching marketing and working in the MBA in Sport and Entertainment Management program. She is an enrolled member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and grew up in Cherokee, North Carolina. She is an alumnus of the University of Tennessee (B.S. and Ph.D) and the University of Central Florida DeVos Sport Business Management program. Natalie has over 5 years of professional experience working with Nike and Wieden+Kennedy and most recently the Indigenous Athletics Advancement Council. Natalie is passionate about advocating for Indigenous athletes and equity across all of sport.

The event will take place on Zoom on the 27th and will begin at 12:30pm EST / 9:30am PT (for other time zones, click here). The event is free to register and open to the public. Please join us and share with your student and colleagues.
