Seeking contributions for the forthcoming anthology, Setting the Table: Essays at the Intersection of Sport and Food (University of Arkansas Press), a first of its kind collection to feature perspectives on the myriad ways that sport and food are intertwined in media, cultural spaces, material culture, and everyday practices. This interdisciplinary project will explore topics at the intersection of sport and food from social, cultural, and historical perspectives. Individual chapters will be arranged around the broad themes of food, sport, and identity; representations of sport in food culture; and constructs of race, ethnicity, and gender in sport/food settings. Contributions from women, BIPOC, and LGBTQIA+ scholars are especially encouraged.

Expected length of individual chapters is approximately 7,500 words.

For consideration for inclusion, please submit a 200-300 word abstract with your name, contact information, and a working title outlining the subject, scope, methodological perspective/analytical approach/theoretical framework (as appropriate), significance, and relevance of your work for this anthology.

Abstract submission deadline is August 15, 2023, with authors being notified of decision on theirsubmission no later than September 15, 2023.

First drafts of chapter manuscripts will be due by January 15, 2024. Comments/feedback/criticism provided to authors by March 1, 2024. Deadline for revised manuscripts: July 1, 2024.
