Sports are used by young and old for enjoyment, exercise and character-building activities. Sports form the backbone for professional leagues, television networks, mega-events and tours in numerous countries around the world. The Premier League, the National Basketball Association, La Liga and Serie A are shown around the world on television and online networks. Sport is also used for economic development, community development and to build bridges between groups that have been in conflict. Another use for sport is as a tool in the diplomatic efforts of nations around the world. This book will focus on sport and diplomacy, with examples of this practice from countries on every continent.
You are invited to submit an abstract of a book chapter proposal for a book that will be published tentatively in the fall/winter of 2016. The publisher and editors are looking for topics directly related to sport and diplomacy, especially how non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and governments around the world use sport for diplomatic purposes. The book will be organized in a way that will offer a cross-section of sports and diplomatic methods covering NGOs and governments from every continent in the world (excepting Antarctica).
