Initially launched in 2019, the Sport Ecology Group (SEG) has experienced tremendous growth as a research consortium and interdisciplinary field in five years. Since then, we have established an international reputation for excellence in sport and sustainability, climate change, and natural sport research among hosts of other related topics. Driven by a mission to produce high-quality research, and weave that research into elevated learning experiences for students, stronger relationships with industry practitioners, and accessible public scholarship, we are excited to welcome applications for new members and graduate students.
Opportunities for Academics
We invite potential new members to join the Sport Ecology Group community. This is an excellent opportunity to engage with other researchers and educators. We are particularly interested in meeting potential new members from the humanities, business, kinesiology, psychology, environmental and climate science, history, medicine, and anthropology fields. Additionally, we have an interest in growing the global footprint of the SEG, and encourage potential new members from regions across Africa, Australia/Oceania, Asia, Europe, and South America to apply, but we are open to all applicants of those interested. For more information visit our website on the “About” page, and for enquiries contact our Membership Lead: Jessica Murfree . Opportunities for Graduate Students
We invite interested graduate students to join the Graduate Student Mentorship Initiative (GSMI) for the 2024-2025 academic year. The GSMI is designed for graduate students to engage with academicians and practitioners in sport ecology-related topics, such as climate vulnerability, impact assessments, environmental justice, sport sustainability, environmental psychology in sport, and coupled-human-nature interactions in sport contexts. As part of the GSMI, students receive 1. Access to the SEG database of sport ecology research; 2. Personalized reading lists prepared by SEG team members; 3. Monthly group video calls focused on research, teaching, collaboration, and practitioner interaction; 4. Direct mentoring opportunities. For more information visit our website on the “Resources for Students” page, and for enquiries contact our Teaching Lead: Kyle Bunds.
