The M.A. program “International Sport Development and Politics” at the German Sport University Cologne is designed primarily for graduates of sports, social sciences and humanities who have a strong interest in the political, cultural, economic and social aspects of sport. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the master program and its diversity requirements, it is also open to applicants from other disciplines.

Aiming at a comprehensive understanding of structures, actors and conflicts in sport and physical activity, it provides an international focus on sport, including transnational and comparative dimensions. In order to obtain a profound knowledge and understanding of sport in its political, social, cultural and economic framework, the program combines sport sciences with humanities, social sciences and economics. The program is highly research oriented and fosters problem-solving capacities as well as methods for understanding and analyzing sport.

Truly international in its orientation, the master program strives to qualify students for responsible occupations in the field of sport development in sport organizations, governments and administrations, as well as non-governmental organizations.
