Cassius Clay autographs draft cards at Cheviat Hills Park, June 24, 1967. (Herald-Examiner Collection, Los Angeles Public Library; from Southern Cultures)

In The Black Athlete Revolt: The Sport Justice Movement in the Age of #BlackLivesMatter (Rowman & Littlefield), Shaun M. Anderson examines the Black athlete’s rise in advocating for social justice and how today’s athletes have moved beyond protesting to create substantial change for Black Americans. Our reviewer is Steph Doehler, and to her it’s a must-read for anyone interested in the juncture of sports, politics, and racial dynamics, and a standout contribution to the ongoing conversation about the role of athletes in shaping our society. (Review in English, published 230927.)

Jørn Hansen has read a fascinating and exhaustive account of the dramatic events which led to the first rejection by a host city population to a bid for the Games.
