Dear all,
You would not have thought so from just looking at the output of the week, but it’s been a really busy period, mostly with things that do not turn up on the site right away – or even sometimes ever. Quite a large amount of time spent during a week at the office is spent on sifting through hundreds of emails from various sources, for instance mailing lists or different kinds of publishing outlets, that might purvey bits of information that could be of use for the Forum readership.
So that kept us busy, as did going thtough lists of new and forthcoming books from publishers in the hope of finding suitable books for review, and then order review copies. A half dozen books were ordered during the past week, and as many books, having already arrived, were distributed to reviewers. And so it goes, week after week, to ensure that we will have stuff to publish during fall.
Other than that, weather has been fine lately, spring moving into early summer, regrettably however, mostly experienced through the office windows. But encouraging nonetheless. Summer in the city, can’t wait!
Last week the following items were published on idrottsforum.org (see below; language and publication dates, YYMMDD, in brackets). Click on the red headings to go to content. Utilize the Google Translate service to turn Scandinavian language pages into (some sort of) English.
Have a great week,

Book Reviews
Tennis: A History from American Amateurs to Global Professionals by Greg Ruth
The arrival of the Open era in 1968 was a watershed in the history of tennis – the year that saw professionals and amateurs compete on equal footing in all tournaments. The professionalization of tennis is the main theme in Greg Ruth’s Tennis: A History from American Amateurs to Global Professionals (University of Illinois Press). Sport historian Johnny Wijk was so inspired by Ruth’s writings that his review took the form of an essay with interesting reflections on the book as well as on tennis in general. (Review in English, published 220517.)
Idrett og bærekraft: Perspektiver på miljø- og samfunnsansvar i idrettens organisasjoner [Sport and Sustainability: Perspectives on Environmental and Societal Responsibilities in Sport Organizations] by Dag Vidar Hanstad, Morten Renslo Sandvik & Anna-Maria Strittmatter
How do we understand the concept of sustainability in sports? What is sustainable development? Are the global sustainability goals ambitious enough? Idrett og bærekraft [Sports and sustainability] by Hanstad, Sandvik and Strittmatter (Fagbokforlaget) addresses these and many other issues. Daniel Svensson is the forum’s reviewer, and some objections notwithstanding he finds much in this book to please and inspire both himself and likely future students at sports-related higher education in Norway. (Book in Norwegian, review in English, published 220519.)
