Dealing with sportswashing – an exercise in honour and popular culture

In this feature article, Katarzyna Herd delves into the thorny concept, phenomenon and research object sportswashing. According to Wikipedia, the first usage of the term may have been applied to Azerbaijan and its hosting of the 2015 European Games in Baku, but the practice of nations or governments using sports to improve reputations tarnished by wrongdoing goes all the way back to the Berlin Olympics in 1936. Herd’s investigative rumination about sportswashing includes philosophical as well as cultural aspects. (Published in English 240327.
Book Review
Sport Startups: New Advances in Entrepreneurship, by Vanessa Ratten

In Sport Startups: New Advances in Entrepreneurship (Emerald Publishing) Vanessa Ratten examines the global growth of startup enterprises in the sports sector and addresses how they contribute to new developments in business innovation and entrepreneurship. Daniel Bjärsholm’s critical reading found strengths as well as weaknesses in Ratten’s presentation and argumentation. Nonetheless, our reviewer concludes that it’s a book worth reading, largely because of its current and highly relevant subject. (Review in English, published 230516.)
