The 2023 Swedish Association for Behavioral and Social Science Sports Research (SVEBI) conference took place in the vibrant, timeless, and culturally rich city of Gothenburg, and Comfort Ankunda & Webster Tinashe Chakawata were idrottsforum.org’s ears and eyes. The University of Gothenburg’s Department of Nutrition and Sports Science provided the setting for the three-day conference, which gathered an impressive number of attendees, including leading sport social scientists from Sweden, together with educators, students, and practitioners – and indeed alongside those also participants from the Nordic countries, Europe and even Australia! Book Reviews

Kunst, krop og terapi, by Helle Winther, Jan Toft & Simo Køppe (red.)

(Shutterstock/deepadesigns)

Humans have always sought insight, well-being and emotional freedom through artistic expression. The idea that Art, body and therapy are closely connected is not new, and yet this anthology, compiled by Helle Winther, Jim Toft and Simo Køppe (Hans Reitzel), opens up new avenues. Märtha Gripson is our reviewer, and she guides us through the book’s various chapters and forms of therapy to a cohesive whole. The book, he believes, should have a wide readership and can be very useful in therapeutic theory and practice. (Book in Danish, review in Swedish, published 240125.)

Doping in Sport and Fitness, by April Henning & Jesper Andreasson (eds.)

(freepik)

Doping, as both practice and phenomenon, has largely been approached as a question of socio-cultural context and structures. April Henning’s and Jestper Andreasson’s edited volume Doping in Sport and Fitness (Emerald) argues that rigid differentiations between doping contexts – such as sport/fitness or elite/recreational – are less clear than it might seem. Andrew Bloodworth found the book an informative and interesting read, and he highly recommends it to those with an interest in this wide and complex field. (Review in English, published 240126.)
