Dear all,

Last week the following few items were published on idrottsforum.org (see below; language and publication dates, YYMMDD, in brackets). Click on the red headings to go to content. Utilize the Google Translate service to turn Scandinavian language pages into (some sort of) English.
And remember, if you’re not already hooked up to one of the social media outlets that we utilize, for now they are Facebook, Bluesky, LinkedIn and X, you’re missing quite a lot of information from idrottsforum.org that never appears on the website. So, if that is the case, check out, by clicking on the names, our Facebook, Bluesky, LinkedIn and X accounts.
Have a great week,

Book Reviews

Looking a bit too hard at a single FIFA Women’s World Cup edition

Politics, Social Issues and the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, edited by Danielle Sarver Coombs and Molly Yanity (Routledge) takes a close look at politics and social issues in the context of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup that took place in Australia and New Zealand and is one of the most attended women’s sporting events in history. Christian Tolstrup Jensen appreciates that the book takes a broad view on women’s football with a global perspective. He also notes that the Cup in fact plays a rather limited role in many chapters. Valuable overview of Brazilian women’s football – history and current situation

The Beautiful Game Reimagined: Women’s Soccer in Brazil, edited by Lívia Gonçalves Magalhães, Tiago J. Fernandes Maranhão & Bernardo Buarque De Hollanda (Common Ground) challenges long-held notions of the country’s enduring football heritage by highlighting the influential and rapidly evolving sphere of women’s soccer. Jonny Hjelm finds a few flaws in the editorial work, which are however overshadowed by the strengths: the breadth of the subject, the intersectional perspective and some really good chapters coalesce to create valuable knowledge of women’s football in one of the major football nations. (Review in English and Swedish, published 241214.)
