Dear all,

A slow week at the office, Easter week, as it turned out. And today, Easter Monday, is a public holiday as well, at least in Sweden, so a slow start to this week. Well, it’ll pick up, I’m sure of that.
So, last week the following few items were published on idrottsforum.org (see below; language and publication dates, YYMMDD, in brackets). Click on the red headings to go to content. Utilize the Google Translate service to turn Scandinavian language pages into (some sort of) English.
Have a great week,

Book Reviews

Female Fans, Gender Relations and Football Fandom: Challenging the Brotherhood Culture, by Honorata Jakubowska, Dominik Antonowicz & Radosław Kossakowski

In Female Fans, Gender Relations and Football Fandom: Challenging the Brotherhood Culture (Routledge), Honorata Jakubowska, Dominik Antonowicz and Radosław Kossakowski assesses the transformation of Polish football fan culture from a gender perspective. In their review, Payam Ansari and Gary Sinclair point out that female fandom in men’s football is not that different from male fandom; however, it takes a bit of effort, and male mentorship, for female fans to be accepted into the stands. (Review in English, published 230404.)

Drugs in Sport: Eighth edition, by David Mottram & Neil Chester (eds.)

Drugs in Sport, now in its 8th edition and still with David Mottram at the helm, with Neil Chester as co-editor, is a comprehensive and accurate text on the emotive, complex and critical subject of performance enhancement and doping within sport. Ask Vest Christiansen reviewed the 5th edition for us in 2011, and he takes great pleasure in reading a thoroughly update version of this classic handbook, his own preferred reference work on the subject of doping in sports. (Review in English, published YYDDMM.)
