Academics in various disciplines are writing about sport. The Oxford Handbook of Sport and Society, edited by Lawrence A, Wenner (Oxford UP), features leading international scholars’ assessments of scholarly inquiry about sport and society. Divided into six sections, chapters consider dominant issues within key areas, approaches featured in inquiry, and debates needing resolution. Our reviewer is Richards Giulianotti, who edited the Sage four volume set The Sociology of Sport in 2012, and he finds that this new collection, some unnecessary omissions notwithstanding, is a welcome addition to the existing list of handbooks in the field.

Sport, Education and Society encourages contributions from social scientists and educationalists studying the relationships between pedagogy, ‘the body’ and society, The Forum Editor’s pick from the current issue: Beat the Game: a Foucauldian exploration of coaching differently in an elite rugby academy by Zoë Avner, Jim Denison, Luke Jones, Emma Boocock & Edward Thomas Hall.

Sports Coaching Review is an international peer-reviewed medium for the publication of articles related to sports coaching. It aspires to be a major focal point for the publication of sports coaching research throughout the world. The journal is mono, multi and interdisciplinary in approach. Anne Tjønndal reviews two books about coaching, Women in Sports Coaching by Nicole LaVoi (ed.), and Research Methods in Sports Coaching by Lee Nelson, Ryan Groom & Paul Potrac (eds.), both titles from Routledge. Notwithstanding some shortcomings in both books, she considers them useful resources for studying the vast and multifarious field of sports coaching.
