The Journal of Sport for Development (JSFD) is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal. JSFD’s mission is to advance, examine, and disseminate evidence and best practices for programs and interventions that use sport to promote development, health, and/or peace. JSFD is currently seeking submissions for Volume 9, publishing in 2021. Manuscript submission is a rolling process.

This special issue of Peace Review seeks to investigate the current social, cultural, political, and scholarly discourse around sports, development, and peace in a global context. How has sport been deployed as a tool for strengthening social ties and networks, for promoting ideals of peace, fraternity, solidarity, non-violence, tolerance, and justice? How is sport an “instrument” for peace? How does sport contribute to development?

To this day, and around the globe, the language and rituals of many sports and their associated cultural practices continue to be influenced by the adversarial structures of warfare whilst being promoted as regulated encounters that promote mutual understanding and tolerance. The Special Issue invites submissions of individual articles of up to 8000 words that explore the complex relationship between war, peace and sport in culture.

This issue aims to focus on innovative practices and empirical findings. Additionally, it hopes to serve as an outlet for uniquely designed organizations and programming that have received limited attention previously in sport management journals. Thus, the purpose of this special issue is to encourage scholarly attention to the nature of organizational innovation in SDP.

We welcome professionals, scholars, and practitioners in the broad fields of Exercise and Sport Science, Physical Education, Urban Planning, Nutrition, Sports for Peace and Development, Leisure and Recreation Studies from across the globe.
