One of the highlights of the North American Society for Sport History is its annual conference. Held through the years at various locations in the United States and Canada, the conference provides an opportunity for individuals to share their latest research, serves as an opportunity for individuals with similar scholarly interests to share ideas, and furnishes an occasion to pay tribute to those who have served the organization and to recognize outstanding scholarship.

Call for Papers | International Football History Conference | Hibernian Football Club, Edinburgh, June 5–6, 2020. Call ends December 31, 2019

The fourth annual International Football History Conference will take place at the Hibernian Football Club, Easter Road Stadium, 12 Albion Place, Edinburgh, EH7 5QG, Scotland, and will be held over two days (Friday 5 and Saturday 6 June 2020). This is a call for papers to be presented at the conference. There will be an opportunity to present on any topic relating to the history of football of any and all codes.

Call for Papers | Between Social Discipline and Pleasure: The Politics and Practices of Play and Games in State Socialism | Conference at Max Planck Institute for Human Development,...

The aim of the conference is to compare and analyze the politics and practices of play in state socialism to shed light on a field (of power) where actors symbolically experiment with and negotiate forms of querulent behavior. Additionally it is the aim to conceptualize “Political rule and authority as a social practice”. Some types of gaming, games of chances, were defined as incompatible with socialist norms.

This is an open themed conference. Submissions based on original research are welcomed from UK and overseas scholars and can relate to any aspect of sport, physical recreation, education and culture as considered from an historical perspective. Please note all presenters must be BSSH members. Membership can be taken up at the time of registration.

Call for Papers | “Milestones in the Histories of Sport and Physical Culture”. 2019 ISHPES Congress | Madrid Spain, July 14–17, 2019. Call ends February 15, 2019

Scholars are invited to submit sessions including three abstracts related to the main topic, or individual abstracts on a subtopic. Abstract submission is exclusively via email. A thematic session includes three papers relating to one topic.Presenters need to be an ISHPES member to present a paper, and a person can only present one paper as first author.

Scholars are invited to submit sessions including three abstracts related to the main topic, or individual abstracts focused upon one of a number subtopics such as ‘Sports, movement cultures, and health around the world’; ‘New approaches to Olympic history’; ‘Historical approaches to mega-events in sport’; and ’Gender diversity in various physical culture and sports’.

Since the founding of the he North American Society for Sport History (NASSH) in 1972, its members have met at our annual convention to share research findings, to explore theoretical insights, and to honor excellence in our field. NASSH welcomes scholars from all academic disciplines, all countries, graduate students, and those who work outside universities.

This is a call for papers to be presented at the second International Football History conference. There will be an opportunity to present on any topic relating to the history of football.
